“Founded in 1863 with the planting of an English Oak tree, the Gardens now feature one of the finest collections of exotic and native plants found in New Zealand.” says the board at the entrance and we were amazed, how big and beautiful the gardens are. The kids liked the playground best, I guess but when we crossed the Avon River and watched the venetian gondolas go down the river we were sure, this is the best spot in the remnants of this city.
