New Brighton

When we set our feet on NZ earth it was here in Christchurch. Tired yet energized we were dancing at the beach and welcoming the new day, in the mist lay still the New Brighton Pier. Today we also wanted to touch it, to know more about the little village New Brighton. What we learned:

– Just beneth the pier, the artist Peter Donnelly creates gigantic pictures in the sand, mostly on Sundays when the tide is right. – The village, especially the brick buildings, were hit hard by the earthquake and the whole sunshine avenue leading to the pier had died out, all the shops wandered off to big malls. Almost a ghost town. Still, it has something, it’s just like you’d have to close your eyes and then you could hear all the people strolling through the streets, eating ice cream, having fun at the beach.
