“Insulation” – what a beautiful word. A word that most houses in New Zealand have never heard before. Until about 15 years ago there was no obligation to have insulation or double-glazed windows, and so almost all houses built before 2000 are really, really poor insulated. Crying windows in the morning are a normal thing and having the same night-temperatures in the bedroom and in the garden doesn’t seem to bother anyone really. Power-hungry heatpumps do their job in the livingroom – yeah, right.
Our house is insulated – yay! We not just have standard 9 cm exterior wall studs, we have even 14 cm – luxury!
