Napier

Our Lady of Lourdes, a church by NZ architect John Scott, got our full attention in Havelock North while we skipped everything else there (had a walk around that pink fountain last year). Another piece of his work we found in Napier: The St. Mary’s in Greenmedows. Both churches are confident buildings, big and exuberant. This experience could only be followed by the thundering roar of the Pacific Ocean at Napier. We had already marvelled over the uncountable pebbles at the beach (not a grain of sand) when we were here before but this time it sounded even heavier (if that makes sense). Fortunately we had some butterfly cupcakes to raise the sugar level.
