We’re making power now

To keep the power bills low, we decided to go for 6 kW grid-connected photovoltaic system from Solar Electric that should produce around 80% of our annually used power. Solar panels are not aided by the New Zealand government at all and only a small number of power companies even offer a buy-back rate to their customers. Those who do, pay no more than 10c per kWh while they charge about 30c for the same when supplying to us.

But we have plenty of sunshine in this area, so if the maths are right, the panels should pay for themselves within 7 years only. We’ll see. :)
