Maori Bay bird watching

This little bay is right next to the gannet colony of Muriwai and in summertime usually very crowded, not only tourists come here to see the gannets but also the local surfing community likes it for its smashing waves. The black vulcanic sands and pillow lava rocks let this place shine in a unusual way. Anna and Verena obviously were hungry because they ‘cooked’ meals for us (sandpudding and sea-rice, steamed with some algae and scattered shells on top, yum). That’s also the spot where Christian found the butt of the world and I discovered birds that I don’t know and even couldn’t find on search engines or ornithology sites over the net. And that’s a first … if someone can help with this, please feel free to reply to this post with any suggestion on the bird’s name.
