Spring Holidays 2022: Lottin Point – Whakatane

Left the East Cape behind for sunny Bay of Plenty (the sunshine has yet to evolve but we’re slightly optimistic) :D

The historic Christ Church Raukokore, building in a beautiful and wild setting at the very ocean front.

Waihau Bay in the Morning, right across from the Bay Lodge.
Lodge and jetty sit quiet on a calm beach.

A coastal township in the Ōpōtiki District.
Historic house fronts on Church Street. Most of them have been untouched, which preserved the original character of the buildings. A bit of tender loving care would help, too.
Rostcard’s at Church and King St corners.
Interesting bubble gum machines and other stuff, mostly a normal dairy.
Baby nikau palms on the road side, in 10 – 20 years this will be really nice.
Statue commemorating The Progress of Civilisation.
Former Hickey’s sport shop, they gave up it seems. There’s just leftovers on the inside, and a very intense smell of wet walls and mould.
Bay of Plenty of cows, sometimes on the road.
Crossing the Motu river.
Due to slips, the road is one or two lanes at times.
Long strip of highway along the coast, the island in front of us now is already at Whakatane, where we’re headed.
Ohope Beach.
Nukuhou salt marsh walk. From this point you should be able to watch the birds. I see two!
And the little bird is in an especially good mood.
That was a long day. Glad we checked in to our motel and can rest in the tub for a while, right, little bird?
